Cylon Centurion Pattern is Up!

Updated with yardage
Updated 05/06/09 Numbering corrected.

So I spent the day watching the Obama festivities and deciphering the notes I made when making the Cylon Centurion hat. They were very different from what I posted previously, which was my first draft, so I apologize to anyone who started a hat using the old instructions. I knit a sample with the new instructions and the pattern makes sense to me so I hope it makes sense to you. I am up for any suggestions or comments, I am very new to pattern writing so I may be confusing or verbose. If you have any problems you can let me know.

You can download the pattern PDF

Color A- gray and silver
Color B- silver
Color C- red
Color D- gray

I used Karabella Aurora Bulky (2 balls, 108 yards), Karabella Glimmer (not quite 2 balls, roughly 240 yards, and Karabella Stardust (a few yards) on Size 10.5 to make an adult large. I paired them like so: Color A was 1 strand of Aurora Bulky, 2 strands of Glimmer, Color B was 4 strands of Glimmer, Color C was 2 strands of Stardust, and Color D was just the Aurora Bulky. If you have a smaller head, you can adjust by switching to a smaller gauge yarn. I made a tester out of worsted (Red Heart gray for colors A, B, D and 1 strand of Stardust for C) and it made a child size hat.

This hat is fairly awesome! I had a couple questions for you about it...I'm making a practice one now, and it's possible I'm being completely dense about the pattern, but I was hoping maybe you could help!

It seems weird to ask via comment, but here goes--I think the main thing I'm wondering is if you knit this in the round or just back and forth on circular needles, and stitching it up at the end (I started on double pointed and had to switch to circular). I think perhaps I also went wrong in some other places--hard for me to know! I hope you don't mind getting questions about this--I'm super-excited about making this :) many thanks in advance for your help (and for posting this pattern!)!

Christina, the hat is knit in the round except for the point shaping which is knit back and forth. It is similar to turning a heel in a sock.

So if you worked the crown on 3 needles you would shape the point by knitting back and forth on one of those needles, a third of the stitches, and once you've made a point you would continue in the round increasing and decreasing to accommodate for the point shaping. Let me know if that helped.
